SAVING MOTHERS & CHILDREN

Rotary makes high-quality health care available to vulnerable mothers and children so they can live longer and grow stronger. In addition, it helps provide a healthy environment for families.

Our mission is to ensure that children everywhere have better access to quality health care, so mothers and their families can live healthier lives. About 5.9 million children under the age of five die each year because of malnutrition, inadequate health care, and poor sanitation — an improved infrastructure in Pakistan could prevent all of which.

Why Maternal and Child Health?

Based on a 2020 World Health Organization report, approximately 5.2 million children under the age of five lost their lives in 2019 due to preventable and manageable reasons. Additionally, in 2017, around 214 million women faced a lack of access to contemporary contraception.

Fatalities linked to pregnancy-related complications can be averted by ensuring access to prenatal care, skilled childbirth assistance, and postpartum care. Access to contraception yields advantages such as enhancing women’s education and economic growth, as well as preventing the transmission of sexually transmitted diseases.

What Is Rotary Doing

Rotary members can actively engage in this field of emphasis by formulating projects that:

  • Enhance community-based prenatal care and childbirth services, encompassing the advocacy of proper nutrition, prevention of STDs, and training for frontline healthcare providers
  • Advocate for culturally sensitive and community-supported reproductive health initiatives, incorporating family planning services
  • Enhance the well-being of children under five, encompassing immunization and treatment.
  • Notably, diseases like measles, malaria, pneumonia, AIDS, and diarrheal illnesses are significant causes of mortality in young children.

Our Community Project might:

  • Offer immunizations and antibiotics to children.
  • Promote optimal nutrition and advocate for breastfeeding whenever feasible.
  • Integrate water, sanitation, and hygiene efforts to enhance child nutrition, as waterborne illnesses worsen child malnutrition.
  • Prevent mother-to-infant HIV transmission through the promotion of antiretroviral drugs and formula feeding as needed.
  • Provide information and access to contraceptives, as meeting this need could potentially decrease maternal deaths by nearly a third.
  • Distribute birthing kits to healthcare practitioners
  • Sponsor accredited training initiatives for healthcare professionals.
HOW ROTARY MAKES HELP HAPPENS

Rotary is committed to improving the health and wellbeing of communities around the world. In addition to providing education and resources to mothers, we also work to prevent the spread of infectious diseases such as polio, measles, and COVID-19 through immunization programs. Our mobile health clinics provide access to healthcare for those who may not have easy access to medical facilities, while our birth kits ensure safe and hygienic deliveries for expectant mothers. Through our efforts, we aim to empower individuals and communities with the knowledge and resources needed to lead healthy and
fulfilling lives

SUSTAINABLE PROGRAM
LIFE SAVING EQUIPMENTS FOR HOSPITALS

Rotary programs improve women’s access to skilled health personnel: doctors, nurses, midwives, or community health care workers.

A Rotary club in Pakistan is working to equip a local hospital with essential neonatal equipment, which can be crucial in saving the lives of newborns. Through the support of the Rotary Foundation and local partners, the club aims to improve access to quality healthcare for mothers and babies in the region. By providing vital equipment and resources to healthcare facilities, Rotary is helping to address critical health needs and make a meaningful impact in communities around the world.

OUR IMPACT ON THE LIVES OF MOTHERS AND CHILDREN

The Rotary Foundation reaches mothers and children in need by giving communities the help and training they need to take control of their own maternal and infant health care.

Ending Polio Forever

End Polio is a disease that can cause paralysis. We’re working hard to get rid of it, but we need your help.
