Protecting The environment

Rotary shares an interest in protecting our common legacy. The Environment

At Rotary, we are dedicated to promoting and supporting initiatives that enhance the conservation and protection of natural resources, promote ecological sustainability, and cultivate a harmonious relationship between communities and the environment. Our aim is to empower communities by providing access to grants and resources, fostering innovation, and encouraging the adoption of local solutions to address the causes and mitigate the effects of climate change and environmental degradation. By working together and taking proactive steps to preserve our planet’s resources and natural systems, we can build a more resilient and sustainable future for ourselves and future generations.

Why Environment?

Environmental challenges are prevalent globally, and Rotary empowers individuals to enact substantial change through well-informed, sustainable, and community-oriented solutions that combat the root causes and consequences of climate change.

Despite its recent approval in 2020, Rotary has been active in environmental initiatives for years. By focusing on areas like community economic development and water, sanitation, and hygiene, Rotary has directed over $18 million towards global grants that significantly benefit the environment. Our efforts align with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, encompassing a collective commitment to safeguarding the planet.

What Is Rotary Doing?

Rotary members can engage in this field of focus by creating initiatives that:

  • Preserve and rehabilitate land, coastal, marine, and freshwater ecosystems
  • Empower communities to manage and conserve natural resources effectively
  • Promote sustainable practices in agriculture, fishing, and aquaculture
  • Combat climate change by curbing greenhouse gas emissions
  • Fortify ecosystems and communities impacted by climate change
  • Promote educational efforts that encourage environmentally friendly behaviors
  • Champion sustainable consumption to foster resource-efficient economies
  • Address environmental equity concerns and public health considerations

Rotary members are tackling environmental issues the way they always do: coming up with projects, using their connections to change  policy and planning for the future.

Climate change is widely recognized as a global threat that can exacerbate poverty and inequality, particularly in vulnerable communities. At Rotary, we are committed to promoting and supporting initiatives that address the causes and mitigate the impacts of climate change.

By fostering innovative solutions, facilitating access to resources, and encouraging collaboration between stakeholders, we believe that we can make a positive impact on the environment and the communities that depend on it. While the challenge of climate change is significant, we remain optimistic that by working together and taking proactive steps, we can mitigate its worst effects and build a more sustainable future for all.

Rotarians understand that the whole world is their backyard.

Rotarians recognize that climate change is a global issue that affects all communities, regardless of geographic location. We understand that the impacts of climate change can be felt acutely in the places where we live and work, and we are committed to taking action to address this urgent challenge.

As Rotarians, we leverage our networks, resources, and expertise to develop innovative projects and policies that promote environmental sustainability and mitigate the effects of climate change. We believe that by taking a proactive approach and planning for the future, we can create a more resilient and equitable world for all. At Rotary, we are proud to be part of a global community of leaders who are committed to protecting our planet and securing a better future for generations to come.
