It all started with the conventions, which played a role in setting the fiscal and administrative year’s start date. The first Rotary fiscal year began the day after the first convention ended, on 18 August 1910.

The following fiscal year started on 21 August 1911, coinciding with the start of convention. In the next year, an audit of the organization’s finances led to a recommendation to end the fiscal year on 30 June, allowing ample time for the secretary and treasure to prepare financial statement for the convention and board, and determine the number of club delegates to attend the convention.

And that’s how 1 July became the start of the Rotary Year!
